Spring Into Action

May always seems to be one of the busiest months of the year. School is coming to an end for the year with graduation approaching, baseball is in full swing, garage sales become more frequent, and thanks to all the rain, everything is in bloom.  How are your allergies doing? 😊

While there is a lot of hustle and bustle for sure, it is also a critical time for the St. Louis Area Foodbank, as we continue to feed more families in our region due to higher gas prices, ongoing economic uncertainty, and for many families, increased food bills when their kids are out of school for the summer. Rising prices and economic uncertainty have led to a huge decrease in donated food to the Foodbank from some outlets – and so this May, we are challenging you to SPRING INTO ACTION by supporting the St. Louis Area Foodbank or hosting a food drive!

Supporting the Foodbank is easy, safe, and secure – and this month, there is even a special day devoted to supporting non-profits across St. Louis: May 7th, Give STL Day!

This annual campaign raises critical funds for our organization. This year, your support is needed to help reduce the gap in donated food that we normally receive, to provide food and resources to hardworking families across the bi-state region who are struggling to make ends meet.  You can make an online donation this week – or especially on Thursday by clicking this link:

Another way to help us address the reduced donations is to participate in or host a food drive. This month, there are 2 ways to get involved with food drives:

1. Stamp Out Hunger. This is our 2nd largest annual community food drive event, with our friends and partners at the United States Postal Service. Thousands of bright blue bags have gone out into our communities to make it easy for you to place non-perishable food items by your mailbox for our letter carriers to pick up THIS SATURDAY, May 9th.

2. Host your own food drive: Didn’t get a blue bag? Out of town this weekend? Or would you rather take charge and host your OWN food drive? WONDERFUL! 😊 Food drives are a great way to have fun with your colleagues, neighbors, sports teams, faith-based organizations, family or community groups – AND support families across the bi-state region this summer.  Not sure what to collect? Here is a great list of items that are most needed right now:

This spring, we are not only supporting more families across our region, but we will be partnering with our friends and partners at the Urban League for a community-wide food distribution on Saturday, May 16. This distribution will assist families who continue to rebuild after the devastating tornado that hit St. Louis one year ago. This event will be held on Saturday, May 16, from 12 â€“ 3 pm at the Urban League Headquarters at 1408 N. Kingshighway Blvd in St. Louis.

However you decide to “Spring into Action” and however you can help, please know that we are grateful. As we say around here – “Hunger Can Affect Anyone – but Anyone Can Affect Hunger”.
