September is Hunger Action Month

Who doesn’t love a day dedicated to things they enjoy? Like National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day or National Pizza Day! At the St. Louis Area Foodbank, you won’t find us missing an opportunity to indulge in a tasty treat. But as September approaches, we encourage you to learn a bit more about a day that is very special to us: Hunger Action Day. It is a day to take action and help provide hunger relief in our community. Even better, we recognize the entire month of September as Hunger Action Month!

While you might not find any greeting cards in stores to send to someone, our team at the Foodbank has created a host of resources you can use to help us shine a light on the issue of hunger in our region. And more importantly, have offered ways that anyone, of any age, can make a difference!

How can you get involved? I am so glad you asked! Here are  a few ways that you can join us, as we ramp up  efforts to increase our food, funds, and friends throughout the month:

FoodFood is our passion, and providing healthy food for our neighbors across the bi-state region is our mission. We have created a brand new “Best Items to Donate” flyer to make it even easier.

So please, gather your friends, school, church, neighbors, or co-workers and collect food to donate to the St. Louis Area Foodbank.  AND if you are looking to host a REALLY big food drive, well – don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!  Reach out to Jordan at jcasey@stlfoodbank.org to arrange delivery and pickup for our famous red food drive barrels at your locationIt’s a great way to engage even more people during Hunger Action Month!

Funds: For Hunger Action Month 2026, the St. Louis Area Foodbank is launching our first ever Peer 2 Peer fundraising campaign. The Great Food Fight is on, and this campaign provides an easy way to take action. You can start your own individual or team fundraiser, join a team, or simply donate personally. 😊 Inspire others and spread the word to your friends and family with individualized messaging and graphics to support this effort. Join the campaign and help provide immediate, tangible support by supplying food and HOPE to our region.

Great things are not built alone. Ending hunger takes all of us: neighbors, advocates, volunteers, donors, farmers and community partners coming together with a shared purpose. This September, we are committed to strengthening our community – one act of kindness at a time. Because while Hunger Can Affect Anyone – Anyone Can Affect Hunger.
