Give Food. Give Love. Give Now.

During the month of September, the Feeding America Network of 200 food banks across the country unite to raise awareness and inspire action to support our communities in a campaign aptly named, Hunger Action Month. The St. Louis Area Foodbank is proud to be your regional food bank, and we wanted to share some opportunities for you to help make a difference this month. Here are a few ways you can join the St. Louis Area Foodbank and TAKE ACTION to help those in our community facing food insecurity:

Host a food and funds drive: Encourage your friends, co-workers, or community members to come together to decrease food insecurity, no matter where they are. Consider hosting a food and fundsdrive! This simple, yet powerful way to collect food and funds allows you to support the St. Louis Area Foodbank by physically collecting some of our most needed items,or helping us maximize our buying power to purchase food with funds donated to your drive. To host a food and funds drive, click HERE.

If you want to help but can’t host your own food drive, visit one of the 18 St. Louis region Simmons Bank locations and drop off your donations all month long!

Donate Funds: Sourcing and distributing over 50 million pounds of food each year is not possible without the generosity of our donors. Consider a tax-deductible financial gift to ensure that no one must choose between food and the necessities we take for granted each day. You can feel confident your donation will have an impact as over 96 cents of every dollar goes directly to our programming and services. All donations made in September, up to $50,000, will be matched by an anonymous donor. To donate, click HERE.

You can also DOUBLE your gift on September 10th during our annual ‘Hunger Action Day’ sponsored by BMO. Donations will be matched up to $25,000.

Volunteer your time: Roll up your sleeves and support your community. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our work, and we have various volunteer opportunities available for individuals, families, and groups. If you can’t join us at one of our major events, like our 9/11 Day of Service at the Enterprise Center, please consider volunteering with family and friends at the Foodbank, your local food pantry, or at one of our mobile distributions. To see a list of volunteer opportunities click HERE.

This September we will also participate in two (2) Stand Up/Stand Down events for Homeless Veterans – one in Illinois on September 12th and one in Missouri on September 28th. For more information on these events, or our Veterans programming, please contact Melanie Hager at mhager@stlfoodbank.org.

Lend your voice – be an advocate! Did you know that one in seven people across the bi-state region struggle with food insecurity or that 53% of households must choose between putting food on the table or paying for their utilities? Throughout September, we will be sharing information to educate the public about the food insecurity crisis. Follow us (@stlfoodbank) on social media, get educated, and share the information with your networks.

JOIN US on Hunger Action Day by wearing orange and posting on social media! Please mark September 10th on your calendars- as this is Hunger Action Day! We want to see you in your favorite orange gear on September 10th all over social media! Please remember to tag us (@stlfoodbank) on any/all channels that you use – and let your networks know that you are part of a movement to ensure that everyone in the bi-state region has access to the healthy and nutritious foods they need to live their best possible lives!

Shop at Fresh Thyme and Round up for the Foodbank! Throughout the month of September, when you shop at St, Louis area Fresh Thyme locations, you will have the opportunity to “round-up” at the registers and support the work of the St. Louis Area Foodbank. This is a simple and fun way to make a difference while you shop for the items you need for your family.

Regardless as to how you choose to join us this month- by donating your time, talents, or treasures to the St. Louis Area Foodbank, please know we are TRULY grateful for your support.

Every dollar matters. Every hour matters. Every meal matters. When you support the St. Louis Area Foodbank, you are helping us build a stronger bi-state region by nourishing people, empowering communities, and transforming systems. We appreciate your generosity, trust, and partnership, so on behalf of everyone at the St. Louis Area Foodbank, we thank you for giving food, giving hope, and giving love to our neighbors in need this fall.
