Food Shouldn’t Be an Impossible Choice

Did you know that more THAN 430,000* people in the Missouri & Illinois bi-state region face hunger? That is 1 out every 6 people in our community.

A daily meal poses a tough choice for far too many:  a meal or electricity?  A meal or medication? A meal or rent? (*Feeding America ‘Map the Meal Gap’ March 2021)

These are choices that no person or family should have to make so this month we are asking for your help to ensure no one has to go to bed hungry – or make these types of choices.

September is Hunger Action Month—a time when the Feeding America network of 200 Food Banks and the public come together to raise awareness and inspire action to help people facing the impossible choices of hunger. Here are a few simple ways you can join the St. Louis Area Foodbank to take action this September to help those facing hunger:

Hunger Action Month VolunteersJoin us for Helpie Hours

Give back in a meaningful way at Helpie Hours hosted by the St. Louis Area Foodbank during Hunger Action Month. Join us on September 9, 16 or 23 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for a night of volunteering and mingling with others who want to make a difference. Registration is $10 which includes snacks and drinks. Grab your friends for a night of fun and feed more people in the bi-state region! (These events are 21+.) Register here.

Go Orange on Hunger Action Day – September 17

Go Orange to show your support for hunger relief! Wear your favorite orange shirt (or outfit!) and get your friends to join you! Take a picture and share it on social media! Don’t forget to use the hashtag #HungerActionMonth and tag us @stlfoodbank.

Host a Virtual Food Drive

Encourage your friends, co-workers, or community members to come together to fight hunger, no matter where they are. A virtual food drive is a great way to maximize your impact. With just a few clicks, you can make a difference in the lives of your neighbors without ever leaving your desk.  Visit this link to begin setting up your virtual food drive.

Raise Awareness by hosting a Lunch & Learn

The first step in taking action to solve a problem is to learn about it. Bring your entire team, office, classroom, or community group together to learn about the St. Louis Area Foodbank, the need in our community, and how anyone can get involved. Our knowledgeable staff can present to your group either virtually or in-person. Contact Nate Pedigo at npedigo@stlfoodbank.org to schedule a Lunch and Learn today!

Looking forward to seeing you and your ORANGE this month, everyone!  Thank you for your support!
