Summer Food Service Program

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) ensures that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session.

We provide the food, they provide the muscle

We support our summer feeding sites by providing all the food that is distributed, along with menu plans and information regarding food preparation. The feeding sites then prepare and package everything for the kid’s lunches and snacks.

Each site has their own staff that oversee the day to day operations which includes taking daily meal count records and providing meals as specified. They then pass the meal counts and production sheets back to us, where we get reimbursed from the state at a specific rate for number of meals served.

Nutrition Guidelines

Every meal has specific nutrition guidelines it must meet in order to be creditable under the SFSP program.

For example, every lunch meal must include:

  • 1 c. Milk
  • 3/4 c. total of two Fruits or Vegetables, or one of each
  • 1 serving of Grain
  • 2 oz. of Meat or Meat Alternative (ex. cheese, peanut butter, etc.)

Summer Feeding Sites

For the summer of 2015, we have five summer feeding sites in Illinois and plan to expand into Missouri next summer.
