ST. LOUIS RAMS SUPER BOWL APPEARANCE RESULTS IN $25,000 FOR ST. LOUIS AREA FOODBANK

ST. LOUIS, MO -- March 28, 2000 -- The St. Louis Area Foodbank recently received $25,000 from "Taste of the NFL" thanks to the Super Bowl appearance by the St. Louis Rams.

"Taste of the NFL" is an annual pre-Super Bowl food and wine tasting extravaganza featuring the top chefs from each of the thirty-one NFL cities, paired with an alumni player from each team.   The St. Louis representatives at the event are Cardwell's At The Plaza and former Ram Alexander Wright.  Attendees are able to sample specialty foods, meet the chefs, and get photos and autographs from host players and special celebrity guests.

Fifty percent of the funds raised from the event are distributed to numerous national hunger-relief organizations such as America's Second Harvest and the United Way.  Also, each year, an amount is designated for the cities participating in the game.  "The Rams' appearance in the Super Bowl not only brought tremendous joy to our city, it will now bring food to needy families within our service territory," said Frank Finnegan, St. Louis Area Foodbank Executive Director.  "Bill Cardwell and Dave Owens of Cardwell's At The Plaza have been representing St. Louis and the Foodbank at the event now for 5 years and their efforts have paid off in a very big way," concluded Finnegan.  "The St. Louis Rams are proud out Championship season is providing additional opportunities to benefit the St. Louis community," said Marci Moran, Rams Community Relations Manager.   "Our Super Bowl victory will take on a special meaning for the recipient families of the food and services that this gift will provide through the St. Louis Area Foodbank."

Since 1975, the St. Louis Area Foodbank has served as a non-profit regional food distribution center for organziations that feed hungry people throughout 14 counties in Eastern Missouri and 12 counties in Southwestern Illinois.
