6th Annual Canstruction® Competition Results in Much-Needed Food for Local Families in Need

"Why Let Hunger Drag-On?" by Mackey Mitchell Associates won Juror's Favorite at the 6th annual Canstruction competition.

What:
Local design/build firms have joined efforts to benefit hunger relief this upcoming holiday season by donating their time and talents to canstruct unique 10-by-10-foot structures using an estimated 30,000 pounds of canned or boxed food items.

Once all structures are completed, each will be judged for local awards in categories such as “Best Use of Labels,” “Best Meal,” “Structural Ingenuity,” and “Juror’s Favorite.”  After the local award winners are determined, detailed photos of the winning structures will go on to compete nationally against structures from 50 other Canstruction® competitions across the country.  Since the St. Louis competition began in 2000, local firms have received an unmatched six national awards – including the 2003 competition when Mackey Mitchell Associates won the national “Juror’s Favorite” award with their creative “Jack ‘Can’ A Box” structure.

Where:
St. Louis Mills
5555 St. Louis Mills Blvd.
Hazelwood, MO  63042

When:
November 09 - November 17, 2005

Why:
The cans used to create the structures will be donated to the St. Louis Area Foodbank and the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry - a Foodbank member agency.  Each organization will use the collections to help feed the increased local need this holiday season.

Since Canstruction® began in St. Louis in 2000, the event has collected more than 150,000 canned goods for the local community in need.
