Local Design/Build Industry to Display "Can-Do" Attitude with 5th Annual Canstruction® Competition

"Baseball - the Great AmeriCAN Pastime" by McClure Engineering on display now through Nov. 19 at St. Louis Mills

What:
Local design/build firms have joined efforts to benefit hunger relief this upcoming holiday season by donating their time and talents to canstruct unique 10-by-10-foot structures using an estimated 14,000 canned or boxed food items.

Once all structures are completed, each will be judged for local awards in categories such as “Best Use of Labels,” “Best Meal,” “Structural Ingenuity,” and “Juror’s Favorite.”  After the local award winners are determined, detailed photos of the winning structures will go on to compete nationally against structures from 50 other Canstruction® competitions across the country.  Since the St. Louis competition began in 2000, local firms have received an unmatched six national awards – including the 2003 competition when Mackey Mitchell Associates won the national “Juror’s Favorite” award with their creative “Jack ‘Can’ A Box” structure.

Where:
St. Louis Mills Food Court
5555 St. Louis Mills Blvd.
Hazelwood, MO  63042

When:
November 11 - November 19, 2004

Why:
The cans used to create the structures will be donated to the St. Louis Area Foodbank and the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry.  Each organization will use the collections to help feed the increased local need this holiday season.

Since Canstruction® began in St. Louis in 2000, the event has collected more than 110,000 canned goods for the local community in need.
