National Hunger Awareness Day is Thursday, June
5th and, in recognition of the event, the St. Louis Area Foodbank is asking our local
community to skip lunch for the day and instead, donate their lunch dollars.
Through its mass distribution system and relationships with both national and local food
manufacturers the Foodbank is able to turn each dollar donated into more than $10.00 worth
of much-needed food for local families in need.
A typical lunch costs $6.00. If
instead, you donated that same $6 to the Foodbank, we could translate it into $62 worth of
much-needed food for families in need.
Corporations,
please click here to download a
flyer in MS Word to help promote the event with your employees. To save, please
right click the link and select "Save Target As..." on the drop down menu.
Help
out even more by offering to 'match' employees participation up to a certain dollar
amount.
For more information about getting involved, please contact Verletta Cole at (314)
423-6100, ext. 103 or by email at vcole@stlfoodbank.org.
Skipping lunch on June 5th is your
choice. However, for many children in our bi-state community, skipping lunch isn't a
choice, it's a daily reality.
The Foodbank is preparing for an
increase in need now that summer is approaching. In any given week, more than 43,000 different people rely on our services
- and nearly 37% of them are children. As
summer break begins, those families that relied on the schools free or reduced-cost
breakfast and lunch programs will be faced with having to replace those meals.
To help us absorb this impact, please
share what you can and help make this summer of hunger a bit less daunting for our
neighbors in need.

mail a dontaion, please make a check payable to St. Louis Area Foodbank and send to the
